Murals

Murals have the power to create a sense of community and may also provide clues of the history and culture of a neighbourhood.

As part of the mandate of cleanliness of the Éco-quartier, we must develop strategies to prevent the occurrence of graffiti. Most of the time, painting over a wall marked with graffiti does not do more than offer a blank canvas to graffitists and encourages further acts of vandalism.

Meanwhile, an elaborate mural created by an artist, is one of the best ways to deter graffiti makers because there is a form of respect between taggers for this kind of urban art.

Since its foundation, Éco-quartier Peter-McGill has worked with volunteers and artists to create these murals. The aim of these works is not only to reduce the number of graffiti, but also to beautify Downtown Montréal via an urban art form.
