Solid Waste Management

On the Quartier 21 block, a recycling station with a green roof is offered to adjacent businesses where they can store they recyclables as they accumulate throughout the week. The goal is to make recycling easier for merchants and solve the problem of space shortage inside.

Also, a community composting station was put in place in june 2009 with the hope of expansing in the coming years. Both residents and merchants can dispose of their compostables in this space.

Also, businesses are encouraged to reduce their disposable packaging.

In 2012, waste management stations will be constructed to resolve problems associated to a lack of cleanliness in the Sainte-Catherine alley.

The integrated waste management stations will house garbage containers, recycling and oil containers from restaurants. The two community composters will be promoted and located nearby.

When possible, the roofs walls of each station will be greened to reduce the albedo effect.

This project is funded by the Green Fund as part of Action 21 of the 2006-2012 Action Plan on Climate Change of the Government of Quebec.
